Municipality to check building permits<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said the city planned
\nto check building permits in areas like Kemang that were zoned a
\nresidential area but had many commercial buildings.<\/p>\n
Surjadi said Tuesday that action could be taken against
\nbuilding owners if they are found to have abused their permits.<\/p>\n
The city has been checking building permits in Kemang, as the
\nresidential site was overcrowded with non-residential
\nestablishments.<\/p>\n
The Governor blamed the city's offices for the phenomena
\nsaying it was caused by lack of coordination and supervision. But
\nhe said establishments operating on temporary housing permits
\nwere allowed to continue until their permits expired.<\/p>\n
In residential areas only 15 percent of the buildings can be
\nnon-residential.<\/p>\n
Separately Central Jakarta Mayor Abdul Kahfi said checks were
\nbeginning on building permits in the elite residential Menteng
\narea. Of 237 non-residential buildings there 50 have been
\nchecked, and 40 were medical centers, he said.<\/p>\n
\"These can be tolerated,\" Kahfi said. The remaining 10
\nbuildings would have to be returned their original purpose in two
\nor three years when their permits expired, he added.<\/p>\n
South Jakarta Mayor Pardjoko said the mayoralty would invite
\nall the owners of buildings along Jl. Wolter Monginsidi to a
\nmeeting to explain the city's plan.<\/p>\n
Pardjoko said a team was also checking building permits in the
\nKebayoran Baru district, Jl. K. Ahmad Dahlan, Jl. Pattimura and
\nother locations.<\/p>\n
On March 18 Governor Surjadi issued the instruction to check
\nthe Kemang area because 90 percent its buildings were non-
