PT Multi Garam Utama Tbk (FOLK) is expanding its business into the\ndata centre infrastructure sector through its subsidiary, PT Traya Hidro\nIndonesia (Traya Hydro). The company, which is 99.9% controlled and\nowned by FOLK, is involved in the development of two large-scale data\ncentre projects in Indonesia by providing water and wastewater treatment\nsolutions.<\/p>\n
Traya Hydro is recorded as participating in the GAIA project, which\nis part of the Digital Edge data centre ecosystem. Additionally, the\ncompany is involved in a data centre project within the EDGNEX Data\nCentres by DAMAC ecosystem, which is part of the Dubai-based DAMAC Group\nfrom the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n
In both projects, Traya Hydro plays a role in supporting\ninfrastructure needs through the provision of water and wastewater\ntreatment systems.<\/p>\n
This involvement aligns with the increasing investment in digital\ninfrastructure in Indonesia. Digital Edge previously announced an\ninvestment of approximately US$4.5 billion to build an AI-ready\nhyperscale data centre campus in the GIIC area, Cikarang. The facility\nis planned to have an initial capacity of up to 500 MW, with the\npotential to expand to 1 GW.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, EDGNEX Data Centres by DAMAC announced an investment of\napproximately US$2.3 billion for the development of artificial\nintelligence (AI) based data centres in Indonesia, with a projected\ncapacity of up to 144 MW.<\/p>\n
In data centre operations, water requirements are a critical aspect,\nboth for cooling systems and for the needs of clean water and domestic\nwastewater treatment. Wastewater from continuous facility operations\nmust be treated to meet quality standards before being discharged or\nreused.<\/p>\n
Traya Hydro relies on Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology, which\nallows treated water to meet domestic wastewater quality standards while\noffering the potential for reuse as non-consumption water. This\ntechnology is considered aligned with the implementation of water\nrecycling systems in the design of next-generation hyperscale data\ncentres.<\/p>\n
\u201cData centre facilities demand water treatment systems that operate\nwithout interruption, are space-efficient, and produce treated water\nthat can be reused. Our focus is to prove that these standards can be\nmet by domestic technology and production capacity,\u201d wrote the\nmanagement of PT Traya Hidro Indonesia in an official statement on\nTuesday (8\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
In addition to MBR, Traya Hydro possesses capabilities in various\nwater and wastewater treatment technologies, including acting as a\nproducer of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) and Ultrafiltration (UF) units.\nThe company also maintains domestic manufacturing facilities and holds\nSNI (Indonesian National Standard) and TKDN (Domestic Component Level)\ncertifications.<\/p>\n
With these capabilities, Traya Hydro is becoming part of the\nsupporting infrastructure chain required for the development of\nlarge-scale data centre facilities in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Moving forward, FOLK stated that it will maintain a disciplined,\nselective, and measurable investment strategy, targeting sectors with\nlong-term fundamentals that contribute to national economic\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
