MUI on conversion<\/p>\n
I would like to comment on some passages of your front page
\narticle Conversion cause of concern among MUI branches (The
\nJakarta Post, July 28).<\/p>\n
While I was casually reading the article I thought \"are we
\nbeing colonized again? Are foreign fighters entering our beloved
\nIndonesian territory? Are we being attacked?\"<\/p>\n
Upon reading more carefully I realized the article must be
\ndescribing a very dangerous and contagious disease. Maybe it is
\nthe much talked about avian influenza having reached an airborne
\nhuman to human stage, or (God forbid) Ebola. Then I thought \"what
\nhas the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) got to do with all this?\"
\nMaybe an edict will be passed soon regarding the eating of
\npoultry.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, it is even worse. It is Christians who try to
\ninvade the country with their evil preaching and their heretical
\nchurches and their treacherous food and ways.<\/p>\n
Knowing that many Indonesians may look at the MUI for
\nspiritual or social guidance besides our daily nutrition, I just
\nfeel assured that they will really handle this Christianity
\nthreat with all their wisdom and tact.<\/p>\n
After all, these wise guys really make me sleep in total peace
\nand harmony at night while quoting some comforting statements of
\nseveral MUI branches' reports:<\/p>\n
\"The phenomenon of the construction of churches in the
\nprovince (Jambi) is most disturbing.\" And \"We do not understand
\nhow a non-muslim won the election\". \" We will be sure it will not
\nhappen next time (in Bangka-Belitung regency)\"<\/p>\n
But nothing beats the following remark: \"We are proud to
\nreport there is not a single church in Cilegon to this day and
\nthis is how we intend to keep it\".<\/p>\n
Thank you MUI branches for showing such a blanket of safety. I
\ncan't wait to read some comforting reports of the branches in
\nAmbon, Medan, Manado, Poso, Jayapura, Kupang, Maumere and many
\nother evil places.<\/p>\n
