MUI Slams Joint Military Strike<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) condemned the attack launched by\nthe United States and Israel on Iran on Feb 28, describing it as a\nserious escalation that undermines global peace efforts.<\/p>\n
Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, Head of MUI\u2019s Foreign Relations division, said\nthe strike demonstrates that the US-backed Board of Peace (BoP) has\nfailed in its mission to uphold justice and stability.<\/p>\n
Board of Peace \u201cLosing Legitimacy\u201d<\/p>\n
Sudarnoto argued that the existence of the BoP is increasingly\nmeaningless, saying it has lost moral, political and legal legitimacy.\nHe accused US President Donald Trump of \u201chijacking\u201d the concept of peace\nto advance hegemonic interests.<\/p>\n
According to him, the attack on Iran proves the BoP cannot be trusted\nas an international body genuinely committed to Palestinian independence\nor regional justice.<\/p>\n
Warning of Regional War<\/p>\n
MUI warned that the US-Israel military action risks triggering a\nbroader war in the Middle East. Sudarnoto suggested the escalation could\ndestabilise the region further and shift the geopolitical balance.<\/p>\n
He claimed the move may be aimed at weakening Iran\u2019s strategic\nposition and limiting its support for Palestine, thereby strengthening\nIsrael\u2019s dominance in the region.<\/p>\n
Call for Indonesia to Stay Clear<\/p>\n
The council urged the Indonesian government to reject any form of\nmilitary aggression and avoid involvement in the conflict. It called on\nJakarta to uphold international law and advocate for a peaceful, just\nresolution.<\/p>\n
MUI stressed that the strike represents a wider geopolitical\nconfiguration in which Iran has become a target of larger power\nrivalries.<\/p>\n
Explosions Reported Across Iran<\/p>\n
The attack reportedly involved joint US-Israel operations, according\nto a US official cited by Al Jazeera. Israel\u2019s Defence Minister Israel\nKatz described the strike as part of a broader security move and\ndeclared a nationwide state of emergency.<\/p>\n
Explosions were reported in Tehran, with thick smoke seen rising over\nparts of the capital. Local media also reported blasts in Kermanshah,\nLorestan, Tabriz, Isfahan and Karaj.<\/p>\n
MUI\u2019s condemnation highlights Indonesia\u2019s sensitivity to escalating\nMiddle East tensions and its consistent stance on Palestinian issues.
