Muhammadiyah student found dead near home<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A female student from the University of
\nMuhammadiyah was found dead early Tuesday floating in a drain
\nnear her house in Desa Cipayung, Ciputat, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Santi Sofarina, a
\nstudent in the education faculty at the university. She lived on
\nJl. Juanda (also known as Jl. Ciputat Raya).<\/p>\n
According to her relatives, Santi left her house shortly after
\nperforming her predawn prayer. She was going to Al Hikmah Mosque
\nin Mampang Prapatan for a class on memorizing Koranic verses.<\/p>\n
Santi, who also was active in a number of social causes, is
\nbelieved to have been killed before arriving at the mosque, said
\nher cousin, Hasim Purnama.<\/p>\n
Local police detectives said Santi's body -- still in her
\nMuslim dress -- was found by one of her neighbors, Abdul Azis, at
\n5 a.m.<\/p>\n
Evidence<\/p>\n
Azis called local police, who combed the scene for possible
\nevidence. Officers believe the murder took place only a few hours
\nbefore the body was discovered.<\/p>\n
The only injuries on the victim's body were a number of
\nbruises around her neck. Judging from the marks, police suspect
\nSanti was choked by her killers before being dumped in the drain.<\/p>\n
In the drain, officers found a black leather bag containing an
\numbrella, a small towel and a charity coupon book which read Aksi
\nPeduli Ambon (Care Action for Ambon) across the top.<\/p>\n
\"We hope these things can lead police to the killers,\" Lubis
\nsaid, adding the bag and its contents were at South Jakarta
\nPolice Headquarters for further investigation.<\/p>\n
Lubis said police did not know whether the murder was linked
\nto Santi's association with various social causes.<\/p>\n
He said local detectives were still checking whether the
\ncoupon book belonged to Santi.<\/p>\n
Santi's body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital
\nin Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination.<\/p>\n
According to Hasim, Santi was very active in social causes,
\nsuch as giving free religious lessons to children in her
\nneighborhood.<\/p>\n
\"She often received phone calls from her friends who were also
