        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2014 The Indonesian Transportation Association (MTI) views\ntraffic management (traffic engineering) at tourist destinations as\nnecessary given that the pattern of mudik (homecoming) during Eid is\nshifting from purely social visits to family and relatives towards a\nleisure holiday period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMudik is no longer just about visiting family, parents, and\nrelatives, but also increasingly about taking a holiday,\u201d said MTI\nChairman Haris Muhammadun in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, MTI has requested that local government authorities\nimplement traffic management and engineering at tourist zones in\nanticipation of visitors travelling home or returning from Eid 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Last year in Jakarta, the DKI Transportation Office applied traffic\nmanagement at several popular tourist locations, including Taman Mini\nIndonesia Indah (TMII), Ragunan, Kota Tua, Ancol, the National Monument\n(Monas), and Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) to counter expected tourist surges\nduring the extended religious holiday break.<\/p>\n<p>One traffic management measure implemented was a one-way system at\nRagunan, whilst other tourist locations employed situational\nmeasures.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation\u2019s\nTransportation Policy Agency (BKT) alongside other institutions\nestimates approximately 143.9 million people could undertake journeys\nduring the 2026 Eid holiday period.<\/p>\n<p>Various policy instruments have been and will be implemented by the\ngovernment, including public transport and toll road fare discounts,\nrestrictions on logistical freight transport during specified periods,\nand free mudik and motorcycle transport facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, measures include work-from-anywhere (WFA) flexible\narrangements, one-way traffic schemes, contraflow, and odd-even traffic\nrestrictions on toll roads, as well as operational limitations on city\ntransport in certain areas.<\/p>\n<p>Haris conveyed that MTI welcomes and highly appreciates the\napplication of these policy measures.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he stated that synchronisation of these various policy\ninstruments is needed to ensure that movement during this year\u2019s Eid\nholiday period is optimised in reducing traffic congestion and\nbottlenecks at transport hubs, whilst also mitigating accidents and\naccommodating public transport and logistics operations.<\/p>",
