Papandayan activity subsides<\/p>\n<p>GARUT, West Java: Some people living at the foot of Mount<br>\nPapandayan returned to their houses on Tuesday after the threat<br>\nof further eruptions subsided.<\/p>\n<p>A local district official said on Tuesday that the volcanic<br>\nactivity had ceased. \"Some local dwellers have left their place<br>\nof refuge at Cisurupan Mosque and in nearby Simpang subdistrict,\"<br>\nsaid Tedi, a Cisurupan district official, as quoted by Antara<br>\nnews agency on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Lahar threatened five subdistricts at the foot of Mount<br>\nPapandayan on Monday, forcing residents to flee the area.<\/p>\n<p>The subdistricts were Pangumbahan, Pakuwon, Sirnajaya,<br>\nCipaganti and Sirnagalih.<\/p>\n<p>Some residents remained cautious and chose not to return until<br>\nthe danger had completely passed.<\/p>\n<p>No fatalities were reported, but lahar covered Cibereum<br>\nBridge, cutting traffic access to the South Garut area. --Antara<\/p>",
