Mt. Lewotobi still spewing hot ash<\/p>\n

Mount Lewotobi in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, continued to
\nspew hot ash up to two kilometers high, and send out lava, rocks,
\nfire balls and sulfur, officials said Tuesday.<\/p>\n
And forest fires ignited by the eruptions, continued to spread
\nout of control around the volcano.<\/p>\n
Stanis Tefa, secretary of the refugee and natural disaster
\ntask force, said the continued volcanic activity was reported by
\nEast Flores Regent Felix Fernandes.<\/p>\n
Local villagers were advised to remain alert to the
\npossibility of larger eruptions from the volcano in Wulanggitan
\nsubdistrict, Tefa said.<\/p>\n
He said residents from the villages of Boru, Boru Kedang, Nawa
\nKote, Nuri, Nobo Konga and Hokeng Jaya, located on the slopes of
\nthe volcano, had been evacuated.<\/p>\n
Tefa, who is also the social bureau head at the East Nusa
\nTenggara secretariat, said major eruptions on Sunday and Monday
\nhad destroyed hundreds of acres of crops and sparked the forest
\nfires.<\/p>\n
Water sources could not be consumed as they were contaminated
\nby sulfur and ash from the volcano, he added.<\/p>\n
The seismography unit at the Boru volcano monitoring office in
\nEast Flores warned of further eruptions and earthquakes.<\/p>\n
Djami Rebo, head of the East Nusa Tenggara resettlement and
\nregional infrastructure office, could not determine the amount of
\ndamage caused by the eruption.<\/p>\n
"We are still coordinating with the local administration to
\ncalculate the losses," he said.<\/p>\n
He said his office had sent trucks to supply clean water to
\nthe refugees.<\/p>\n
The local administration also provided ten tons of rice for
\nthe victims, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Piet A. Tallo said on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
He said more assistance, including tents and other logistic
\nsupplies, would be sent soon to the refugees.<\/p>",
