Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman\nAbdurrahman has expressed appreciation for Grab Indonesia\u2019s efforts to\nexpand access to learning, skills development, and education for driver\npartners and merchant partners through GrabAcademy. According to him,\nthese efforts can open up more opportunities for partners to improve\ntheir capacity and develop sources of livelihood according to their\nabilities and aspirations.<\/p>\n
Maman assessed that improving the capacity of driver partners should\nnot necessarily be interpreted as an obligation to leave the profession\nthey have been pursuing. He said the concept of \u2018moving up a class\u2019\nshould instead be understood as an effort to broaden capabilities and\nchoices so that each partner can develop through a path that suits their\nneeds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe spirit of \u2018moving up a class\u2019 should not be interpreted as an\nobligation to leave the profession one is engaged in, but rather as an\neffort to expand capacity and choices so that they can continue to\ndevelop according to their respective aspirations,\u201d said Maman.<\/p>\n
He said every job carried out responsibly to meet family needs has\nvalue, including the profession of driver partner. Therefore, access to\nlearning, protection, and business development opportunities is\nconsidered important to support the sustainability of partners\u2019\nlivelihoods.<\/p>\n
Maman added that the government, the business world, and various\nstakeholders have a role in opening up such access. However, making use\nof available opportunities still requires willingness, perseverance, and\neffort from each individual.<\/p>\n
The appreciation was conveyed in line with the expansion of\nGrabAcademy as a platform for learning and skills development for driver\npartners and merchant partners. The platform is directed at helping\npartners improve their abilities, strengthen business management, and\nopen up more diverse livelihood opportunities. Throughout 2025,\nGrabAcademy has been accessed by more than 1.15 million driver partners.\nOf that number, more than 204,000 partners have completed all mandatory\nmodules.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, for merchant partners, the programme provides regular\nonline classes as well as face-to-face training. The materials cover\nshop management, orders and menus, promotions, advertising, customer\nreviews, finance, social media, and the use of technology.<\/p>\n
GrabAcademy was first introduced in 2018 as a video library to\nprovide basic training to driver partners. The platform has now been\ndeveloped into a \u2018Partner Naik Kelas\u2019 (Partners Moving Up a Class)\nplatform with several development pathways, ranging from Mitra Melaju\nfor development from GrabBike to GrabCar, Mitra Pengusaha (Entrepreneur\nPartners), Mitra Kreator (Creator Partners), Mitra Instruktur\n(Instructor Partners), to Beasiswa Mitra (Partner Scholarships).<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Officer of Grab Indonesia Neneng Goenadi said the\ndevelopment of GrabAcademy is aimed at providing space for partners to\nimprove their abilities and explore new opportunities according to their\nrespective needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrabAcademy is here to provide space so that every Driver Partner\ncan continue to grow and fight for their hopes in the way most relevant\nto them,\u201d said Neneng.<\/p>\n
According to Neneng, the partner development process does not have to\nbring all individuals to the same path. Some partners can continue to\ndevelop as drivers, while others can build businesses, become part of\nthe MSME ecosystem, develop themselves as creators, or become\ninstructors.<\/p>\n
In addition to skills training, access to higher education is also\npart of partner capacity development. Through Beasiswa Mitra, 4,732\npartners and children of partners have gained access to continue higher\neducation, one of which is through cooperation with Universitas Terbuka\nchannelled through Benihbaik.com.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, through GrabScholar, since 2022 the programme has reached\nmore than 5,700 beneficiaries with total education assistance reaching\nRp25.8 billion. Beneficiaries include families of driver partners,\nmerchant partners, and the general public.<\/p>\n
The education programme is part of the GrabForGood initiative which\nhas been expanded to five Southeast Asian countries, namely Indonesia,\nMalaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Indonesia is recorded\nas the largest contributor with nearly 70 percent of the total programme\nimpact in the region.<\/p>\n
Rector of Universitas Terbuka Ali Muktiyanto said collaboration\nbetween the business world and higher education institutions in\nproviding access to education can help improve individual capacity while\nopening up opportunities for social mobility.<\/p>\n
According to him, a flexible learning system allows partners to\ncontinue carrying out their work activities while pursuing higher\neducation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith an open, flexible, and technology-based learning system,\npartners do not have to choose between working and continuing their\neducation. They can do both simultaneously,\u201d said Ali.<\/p>\n
The development of GrabAcademy and the education pathways are part of\nthe \u2018Grab Bersinergi: Selamanya Melaju, Selamanya Bersatu\u2019 series in the\nmomentum of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence. The\ninitiative brings together driver partners, merchant partners, users,\nthe government, communities, and strategic partners to expand access to\nlearning and growth opportunities in the digital economy ecosystem.<\/p>\n
