PT MRT Jakarta is attempting to revitalise Jakarta\u2019s economic hubs\nusing the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Placemaking concept, a\nspatial planning strategy that transforms areas around stations into\npublic spaces to drive economic activity.<\/p>\n
R Samuel Ryan Pradipta, Division Head of Business Planning and\nExpansion at PT MRT Jakarta, cited the Blok M area as an example; once\nquiet, it has now developed into a culinary centre for micro, small, and\nmedium enterprises (MSMEs).<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the past, Blok M was not busy, but today it has changed; anyone\ncan feel comfortable visiting, and MSMEs are growing,\u201d he stated in\nJakarta on Tuesday (16\/9).<\/p>\n
He added that with the growth of MSMEs and economic movement, Blok M\nhas now become a meeting point for various communities in Jakarta. MRT\nJakarta intends to develop other potential locations that can serve as\ncommunity hubs across the city.<\/p>\n
Currently, MRT Jakarta is conducting studies to determine other\nsuitable TOD areas. The goal is to open up social spaces and stimulate\nthe economy in the vicinity of MRT stations.<\/p>\n
According to Samuel, the TOD Placemaking concept focuses on areas\nthat are easily accessible and connected to public transport, making it\nsimple for the public to reach these locations. Through this concept,\ncitizens can utilise the spaces around public transport for social\ninteraction and various activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe presence of TOD Placemaking aims to build a sense of ownership\nand emotional connection between the community and the area,\u201d he said.\nMRT Jakarta is also working to revitalise locations that previously\nappeared aged or dull to make them more attractive to visitors.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the planned operation of the Jakarta LRT on the\nManggarai-Kelapa Gading route is set to strengthen the TOD concept in\nthe Summarecon area, integrating residential zones with mass transit.\nMeanwhile, the Jakarta Provincial Government and REI are collaborating\nto address a housing backlog of 402,287 households by optimising 29,000\nunabsorbed apartment units through TOD schemes.<\/p>\n
The government is also encouraging the Summarecon Bekasi TOD to serve\nas a model for integrated cities, supported by an Rp80 billion extension\nproject for Bekasi Station.
