MPR's code of conduct<\/p>\n

The end of the 2004 session of the People's Consultative
\nAssembly (MPR) completed the duties of the members picked during
\nthe 1999 election.<\/p>\n
It must be said that the members did manage to produce some
\nfar-reaching changes, including various amendments of the 1945
\nConstitution.<\/p>\n
Another important outcome of the session was the MPR code of
\nconduct -- a guide for Assembly members as regards their conduct
\nand behavior -- something that is essential in order to maintain
\nthe dignity, esteem and image of the highest institution of
\nstate.<\/p>\n
In setting the rules of the game for MPR personnel, this code
\nshould be consistently observed and penalties imposed on
\nviolators so that the work of this esteemed body will not be
\ntarnished by absenteeism, abuse of power and other types of
\nunacceptable behavior.<\/p>\n
Let us hope that the application of new systems for the
\nrunning of our public institutions will enable proper checks and
\nbalances to be applied between the different organs of state so
\nas to reduce the opportunity for social maladies like corruption,
\ncollusion and nepotism to thrive.<\/p>\n
