        "content": "<p>MPR urged to complete amendment<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Indonesian Students Executive Board (BEM) staged<br>\na peaceful demonstration at the People's Consultative Assembly<br>\nbuilding, demanding the Assembly complete the amendment being<br>\nmade to the 1945 Constitution before 2004.<\/p>\n<p>They met with the Assembly's ad hoc committee preparing the<br>\namendment to the Constitution to voice their demands.<\/p>\n<p>The students, who were received by deputy chairman of the ad<br>\nhoc committee Slamet Effendy Yusuf, called on the Assembly to<br>\ncomplete the ongoing amendment, press for the eradication of<br>\ncorruption and investigate human right abuses, before 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The students also demanded the government terminate<br>\ncooperation with the IMF as of 2002.<\/p>\n<p>\"We should learn from Malaysia and Thailand on how to defuse<br>\nthe economic crisis,\" said a student.<\/p>\n<p>The students also supported the bill on general elections that<br>\nproposes to eliminate seats for servicemen and the police in the<br>\nlegislature. --JP<\/p>",
