JAKARTA \u2014 Speaker of Indonesia\u2019s People\u2019s Consultative Assembly\n(MPR), Ahmad Muzani, praised the work of the National Zakat Agency\n(Baznas) in supporting communities, including through its contributions\nto people in Palestine.<\/p>\n
Through various programmes, Baznas helps communities by providing\nclean water, scholarships, capital for micro, small and medium-sized\nenterprises (MSMEs), and the construction of decent housing.<\/p>\n
Muzani made the remarks at the 2026 Baznas National Coordination\nMeeting, themed \u201cConsolidating Productive and Impactful Zakat in\nIndonesia\u201d, held in Jakarta from 13 to 15 October 2026.<\/p>\n
He said Baznas\u2019 programmes demonstrated the agency\u2019s practical role\nin helping people address social and economic problems while improving\ntheir welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat Baznas is doing is right. When there is a water shortage,\nBaznas is there. When scholarships are lacking, Baznas provides them.\nWhen capital is lacking, Baznas helps with MSME funding. When homes are\nunfit to live in, Baznas helps build them,\u201d Muzani said in his speech on\nTuesday (13 October 2026).<\/p>\n
He also said Baznas\u2019 efforts to launch and implement aid programmes\ndeserved recognition.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere may still be shortcomings, but what is remarkable is that\nBaznas has started all of this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Muzani stressed that Baznas\u2019 contribution went beyond distributing\naid, encompassing long-term efforts to eradicate poverty and advance\neducation. Through zakat management, Baznas is expected to help people\nwho initially qualify to receive zakat, known as mustahik, become\neconomically independent and eventually become muzaki, or zakat\npayers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is Baznas\u2019 good work and contribution to eradicating poverty,\nadvancing education and helping people move from being mustahik to\nbecoming muzaki,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He urged Baznas to remain present in communities and serve the\npublic.<\/p>\n
\u201cBaznas must be there when needed, both when people want to pay\nzakat, infaq and sadaqah, and when they need help. That is what we want\nto discuss at today\u2019s national coordination meeting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
At the same event, Baznas Chairman Sodik Mujahid outlined several of\nthe agency\u2019s strategic programmes for 2026\u20132031. He also reaffirmed its\ncommitment to continuing aid for Palestine.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, we are also showing our concern for East Nusa Tenggara, with\nfundraising and financial support planned for Palestinians.
