        "content": "<p>Universities play a strategic role in driving the energy transition\nas they serve as the birthplace of new research and ideas.<\/p>\n<p>The People\u2019s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR\nRI) is gathering input and ideas from academics at Lambung Mangkurat\nUniversity (ULM) in an effort to accelerate the energy transition\npolicies currently being rolled out by the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniversities have a strategic role in driving the energy transition\nbecause they are spaces where new research and ideas are born,\u201d said the\nVice Chairman of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno, in Banjarmasin on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>During the MPR RI Goes to Campus National Seminar, themed \u201cThe\nUrgency of Energy Transition to Prevent the Impacts of Climate Change,\u201d\nEddy acknowledged that every campus visit provides valuable input that\ncan enrich the formulation of energy and environmental policies.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, he expressed hope that students and ULM academics could\nprovide ideas regarding the energy transition. \u201cThis will serve as both\nan enrichment and a deepening of our efforts in formulating policy,\u201d he\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised the importance of strengthening the domestic use of\ncoal through downstreaming, including the development of Dimethyl Ether\n(DME) as an alternative to LPG.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he noted that the energy transition involves more than\njust changing energy sources; it also pertains to environmental issues\nsuch as water pollution, waste management, and the impacts of climate\nchange.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Rector of ULM, Prof.\u00a0Ahmad Alim Bachri, stated that\nthe presence of the MPR RI at ULM serves as a momentum to strengthen the\ncooperation previously established through a Memorandum of Understanding\n(MoU).<\/p>\n<p>One of the primary focuses of this cooperation is the development of\nnew and renewable energy and climate change issues.<\/p>\n<p>The Rector added that ULM has made tangible contributions through the\nmanagement of a 1,670-hectare educational forest area and a 611-hectare\nmangrove area in Kotabaru Regency. Both areas serve as natural\nlaboratories for research and innovation that support the energy\ntransition agenda and sustainable development.<\/p>",
