Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Chairman Eddy Soeparno has urged the creation of a credible roadmap for developing 100 GW of solar power plants to speed up the nation's energy transition. He emphasised the pivotal role of state-owned energy enterprises and private businesses in ensuring energy security while boosting economic growth, and highlighted five key focuses: strengthening domestic energy resilience, economic growth, carbon emission reductions, cost efficiency, and national industry readiness. Soeparno stressed that this initiative could generate green industries and jobs, positioning Indonesia as a leader in renewable energy in Asia, and called for detailed plans on investments, land requirements, and supporting technologies.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI Eddy Soeparno is
pushing for the acceleration of the national energy transition through
the preparation of a roadmap for the development of Solar Power Plants
(PLTS) with a capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW) in a measured and credible
manner.

In a Hearing Meeting with PLN, Eddy assessed that the role of
state-owned energy enterprises and private sector players is key to
maintaining energy security while driving national economic growth.

Eddy, in his statement in Jakarta on Monday, emphasised five main
focuses in the energy transition: strengthening domestic energy
resilience, promoting economic growth, reducing carbon emissions,
efficiency in transition costs, and national industry readiness so that
renewable energy investments provide maximum benefits domestically.

“The energy transition will give birth to ‘green industries’ (green
industries) and ‘green jobs’ (environmentally friendly jobs) for
Indonesia’s sons and daughters. The industries that are built will open
up employment opportunities, thereby absorbing formal labour which is
greatly needed,” he said.

According to him, the roadmap must include technical aspects,
negotiations for operational cessation, and potential costs arising in
the transition process.

Eddy also responded to the 100 GW PLTS development target within two
years by requesting details on investment needs, land, and supporting
technologies such as batteries.

“How much land is needed, how much total investment, including
battery costs and so on. This must be clear. PLN must truly have a
mature and credible development plan so that the target set by the
President can be achieved,” he emphasised.

“The development of 100 GW PLTS is a ‘quantum leap’ in Indonesia’s
energy transition and will position our country as one of the leading
ones in the renewable energy sector in Asia,” he said.
",
