Jakarta (ANTARA) - Marinus Gea, a member of the People\u2019s Consultative\nAssembly (MPR RI), has asserted that leadership grounded in the values\nof Pancasila is the main foundation for developing Universitas Nias\n(UNIAS) into a Center of Excellence.<\/p>\n
\u201cLeadership is not merely about intellectual intelligence, but about\nvalues, morality and character. Pancasila is a moral compass that must\nguide every leadership process,\u201d Marinus said in a statement issued in\nJakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks whilst delivering material on the Four Pillars of\nthe MPR RI at Universitas Nias.<\/p>\n
Marinus said many intelligent people fail as leaders because they\nlose their moral compass. According to him, true leadership rests not\nonly on intellectual ability, but also on values, character and\nintegrity rooted in Pancasila. He therefore also invited the academic\ncommunity to understand the history of Pancasila\u2019s birth in full.<\/p>\n
According to Marinus, Pancasila was born through a sequence of\nhistorical events beginning with Soekarno\u2019s speech on 1 June 1945,\nfollowed by the Jakarta Charter on 22 June 1945, and culminating in its\nratification in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution on 18 August\n1945.<\/p>\n
He said this historical understanding is important so that the\nyounger generation is not easily swayed by distortions of history or\nideologies that conflict with the nation\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n
Marinus stressed that Pancasila must not remain a mere symbol or\nsomething memorised in the classroom. As a living ideology, Pancasila\nmust be believed in, understood and realised in concrete action by the\nentire academic community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Pancasila is only memorised, then Pancasila is dead in substance.\nBut if it is practised in everyday life, Pancasila becomes a real force\ncapable of driving change,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In his presentation, Marinus described gotong royong, or mutual\ncooperation, as the essence of Pancasila. He argued that progress at\nUniversitas Nias can only be achieved if all elements of the campus,\nfrom the foundation and rectorate to lecturers, students and education\nstaff, work in a spirit of collaboration.<\/p>\n
\u201cA great university is not built by one great person, but by a strong\nculture of cooperation. Gotong royong is the main force that will carry\nUniversitas Nias to excellence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Marinus then outlined the five core values of Pancasila leadership\nthat should underpin university governance: Divinity, Humanity, Unity,\nDemocracy and Social Justice.<\/p>\n
According to him, these values will produce leaders of integrity who\nuphold humanity, unite differences, prioritise deliberation and deliver\njustice in every policy.<\/p>\n
Specifically, Marinus entrusted a message to the leadership of\nUniversitas Nias to regard their positions as a mandate to build\nacademic quality whilst shaping the character of the younger\ngeneration.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the measure of a Center of Excellence is not the\ngrandeur of its buildings or the number of its students, but its\nintegrity, research quality, transparent services, community service and\ncommitment to national values.<\/p>\n
He also urged that the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher\nEducation be directed at answering the real problems of the Nias\ncommunity, from strengthening small and medium enterprises and\ndeveloping the tourism sector to innovation in agriculture, marine\naffairs and fisheries.<\/p>\n
Closing his presentation, Marinus invited the entire academic\ncommunity to make Universitas Nias a crucible that produces future\nleaders who are faithful, have integrity, embody the spirit of gotong\nroyong and are capable of making the Nias Islands an advanced,\nexcellent, competitive and prosperous region.<\/p>\n
