Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Edhie Baskoro\nYudhoyono, emphasised that the drafting of legislation in the era of\nArtificial Intelligence (AI) must be based on accurate data and\nevidence, rather than mere assumptions or unfounded opinions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must not allow a situation where the technology is AI, but the\npolicies are still based on hearsay. We need to identify problems; we\nneed data, we need evidence, and subsequently, we need policy,\u201d said\nIbas (his common nickname) in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
While serving as the keynote speaker at the National Seminar titled\n\u201cStrengthening Data-Based Legislation in the AI Era: Opportunities and\nChallenges in the Governance of One Data Indonesia\u201d at the Nusantara IV\nBuilding of the DPR RI, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2\/9), Ibas stated that\nthe use of AI in the legislative process must be supported by accurate,\nintegrated, and secure data governance with standardised protocols so\nthat the technology can produce analyses that support\ndecision-making.<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201cOne Data Indonesia\u201d does not mean all data must be\ncollected in a single location, but rather ensures that data across\ndifferent systems can be connected and utilised as needed while\nmaintaining security.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne data does not mean all data is piled up in one place. The most\nimportant thing is that the data is accurate, the standards are uniform,\nthe systems are connected, and above all, the data is secure,\u201d said\nIbas.<\/p>\n
He noted that this requirement is becoming increasingly vital because\nAI is capable of processing vast amounts of information rapidly, yet the\nquality of the resulting analysis remains dependent on the quality of\nthe data used.<\/p>\n
Beyond technological aspects, Ibas reminded that the use of AI must\nremain within the corridors of the constitution, democracy, ethics,\naccountability, and the protection of public data.<\/p>\n
\u201cTechnology must certainly follow constitutional values, not the\nother way around,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ibas also emphasised that data-driven legislative drafting must not\nreduce the space for public participation. In his view, the community\nmust be meaningfully involved so that the resulting policies are not\nonly based on data but also address the needs of the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not merely about our presence or just signing documents; we\nwant to continue listening, and we want to continue considering the\nvoice of the people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
To strengthen data governance in the AI era, Ibas advocated for five\nkey measures: ensuring data is clean, clear, and correct; building valid\ndata standards; integrating systems; strengthening data security; and\nensuring meaningful public participation in the policymaking\nprocess.<\/p>\n
He also encouraged the younger generation not only to be users of AI\nbut to play an active role in determining the direction of its\nutilisation in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cAI is not bad, but AI can be wrong if we do not oversee it through\nthe correct methods,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
The seminar, organised by the DPR RI Expertise Body, was attended by\napproximately 350 students from various universities.<\/p>\n
