        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People\u2019s Consultative\nAssembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat stated that preserving Lengger Banyumas\nis not only an effort to safeguard cultural heritage but also a\nstrategic part of strengthening the character and national consciousness\nof future generations. \u201cWhen we talk about Lengger Banyumasan, we are\nessentially talking about how we preserve heritage, and more than that,\nit is an effort to nurture national consciousness,\u201d she said in a\nstatement received in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to her, culture is\nthe moral infrastructure of democracy. She noted that democracy will not\nstand firm without strong cultural roots. She also reminded that\ndemocracy is currently often narrowed down to mere political contests,\ngeneral elections, or power struggles. \u201cIn fact, democracy requires a\ndeeper foundation. Democracy needs citizens who respect one another,\nappreciate differences, and have a sense of their culture and nation.\nThis is the essence of culture,\u201d she said. She further explained that\nadvancing national culture amidst global civilisation is also a\nconstitutional mandate, specifically Article 31 paragraph (1) of the\n1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. She stressed that\nculture is not merely a complement to development, but its soul, breath,\nand an inseparable part of national development. Lestari attended a\npublic aspiration gathering titled \u2018Lengger Banyumas: Safeguarding\nHeritage, Nurturing National Consciousness\u2019 at the Sipanji Pendopo in\nBanyumas Regency, Purwokerto, Central Java, on Monday (15\/6). She\nexpressed appreciation for the artists and cultural figures of Banyumas\nwho consistently promote and preserve Lengger, including reviving the\nphilosophy behind the performing art. Lestari encouraged efforts to\npropose Lengger as a world cultural heritage, following its designation\nas a national intangible cultural heritage in 2019. \u201cState recognition\nis important because it is not merely an administrative record, but a\nform of acknowledgement that Lengger is truly an inseparable part of\nthis nation\u2019s journey,\u201d she said. She added that the greatest challenge\ntoday is not the loss of art itself, but the loss of memory and\nconnection between the younger generation and their own culture.
