MPR, commission meet on constitution<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Members of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR)
\nad hoc committee for constitutional amendments met with members
\nof the Constitutional Commission for the first time on Monday to
\nbuild a common understanding on the jobs now being conducted by
\nthe commission.<\/p>\n
The lawmakers asked the commission members to work as
\nprofessionals and avoid vested interests in synchronizing
\narticles in the Constitution, which has been amended four times
\nby the Assembly since 1999.<\/p>\n
The commission was established early this month to look into
\npossible conflicts between articles in the Constitution. The
\ncommission will report the results of its job during the
\nAssembly's Annual Session next year.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, some members of the Constitutional
\nCommission demanded the lawmakers provide background to the
\namendments and consensus reached among Assembly factions,
\nincluding their agreement not to change the preamble of the
\nConstitution and the country's administration system as a unitary
\nstate.<\/p>\n
United Development Party (PPP) legislator Zein Badjeber said
\nthe consensus had not been reached for the benefit of the
