        "content": "<p>Deputy Speaker of the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari\nMoerdijat stated that the 2026 Economic Census is a momentum to obtain\ndetailed and comprehensive data to realise inclusive economic policies.\n\u201cThe implementation of the 2026 Economic Census is a strategic step to\nobtain detailed and comprehensive data as a basis for implementing\npolicies that can increase women\u2019s participation in the economic\nsector,\u201d said Lestari Moerdijat, known as Rerie, in a statement in\nJakarta on Thursday. According to her, the Economic Census conducted by\nStatistics Indonesia (BPS) in May-August 2026 must produce detailed data\nso that it can become a basis for decision-makers in formulating\npolicies. In this way, she believes that the resulting policies will be\nwell-targeted and responsive to the real obstacles faced by women.\nWithout adequate data, she argued, efforts to promote economic equality\nfor women will only stagnate. \u201cWhen we fight for women\u2019s rights, we are\nactually striving to strengthen the nation\u2019s civilisation. Currently,\nwomen are still facing structural and cultural glass walls that hinder\ntheir access to decent work and strategic positions,\u201d she said.\nReferring to BPS data as of February 2026, Rerie noted that the gap\nremains wide, as the female labour force participation rate (TPAK) has\nonly reached around 56.63 percent, while the male rate stands at 84.40\npercent. She highlighted that 61 percent of women work in the informal\nsector, which offers minimal protection and social security.\nFurthermore, a wage gap persists, with the average wage for female\nworkers at Rp2.80 million per month, lower than the Rp3.55 million\nearned by male workers. According to her, the 2026 Economic Census\nconducted by BPS is a step forward, especially as it involves\ncollaboration with the Ministry of Women\u2019s Empowerment and Child\nProtection and Permodalan Nasional Madani to reach more women\nmicro-entrepreneurs. \u201cWe need more than just counting the number of\nbusiness actors. The census or survey conducted must be able to capture\nin detail the types of barriers experienced by women, whether it is the\ndouble burden, access to capital, financial literacy, or cultural stigma\nthat limits their job choices,\u201d she said. She added that sharper data\nwill help the government measure the effectiveness of existing\nprogrammes. Rerie expressed hope that the data from the 2026 Economic\nCensus can serve as a foundation for achieving a better female labour\nforce participation rate and for fostering an inclusive and equitable\neconomic ecosystem for all Indonesians. \u201cData is key.
