        "content": "<p>MPI has new chairman<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesia Forestry Society (MPI) has<br>\nappointed Sudrajat D.P. as its chairman for the 1998\/2003 tenure,<br>\nreplacing Abbas Adhar, who has held the position for only three<br>\nmonths.<\/p>\n<p>The organization said yesterday that the replacement was<br>\ndecided at the organization's national meeting Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Sudrajat pledged to help the government lift the nation out of<br>\nits severe economic crisis by boosting foreign exchange earnings<br>\nfrom forest-product exports and to give more attention to<br>\nimproving local people's welfare.<\/p>\n<p>Sudrajat replaced Abbas, MPI's former vice president, who took<br>\nthe position after the resignation of Mohammad \"Bob\" Hasan in<br>\nMarch.<\/p>\n<p>MPI is a holding (umbrella) grouping of nine forestry-related<br>\norganizations, the Association of Indonesian Wood Panel Producers<br>\n(Apkindo), the Association of Indonesian Concessionaires (APHI),<br>\nthe Indonesian Saw Mill Association (ISA), the Indonesian Pulp<br>\nand Paper Association (APKI), the Indonesian Flora and Fauna<br>\nTraders Association (HAPFFI), the Association of Furniture and<br>\nHandicraft Producers (Asmindo), the Association of Formaldehyde<br>\nand Thermosetting Adhesive Industries (AIFTA), the Association of<br>\nIndonesian Wood Preservation Industries (APKIN) and the<br>\nFederation of Indonesian Forest Consultant Companies (Hikkindo).<br>\n(gis)<\/p>",
