        "content": "<p>Technological progress should broaden access to information and\nknowledge, rather than creating new barriers for people with\ndisabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Abdul Fikri Faqih, a member of Commission X of the\nIndonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has requested that the\ngovernment ensure digital literacy services managed by the state are\ninclusively accessible to persons with disabilities, particularly the\nvisually impaired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, together with others, we can create inclusive policies\nfor everyone,\u201d Fikri stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he highlighted state-owned digital services, such as the\niPusnas application, which is a social media-based digital library\napplication from the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia\n(Perpusnas). According to Fikri, the application is not yet\nuser-friendly for the visually impaired group.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, Fikri is encouraging the National Library to immediately\nimplement the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure that\naccess to information and digital literacy can be enjoyed by all members\nof society.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that feedback regarding these accessibility limitations has\nbeen submitted by the Indonesian Blind Association (Pertuni), which\nfound that state-owned digital literacy services still face issues\nregarding accessibility for the visually impaired.<\/p>\n<p>Fikri believes that the transformation of services into digital\nspaces must be accompanied by inclusive design. Technological progress\nshould open wider access to information and science, rather than\ncreating new obstacles for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised the importance of policies that consider the needs of\nall societal groups, including persons with disabilities, in the\ndevelopment of government digital services.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the National Library had asserted that the 2026 budget\nefficiency policy would not impact the quality of public services,\nwhether in-person or digital, including the continued strengthening of\nthe iPusnas application.<\/p>\n<p>The President Secretary of the National Library, Joko Santoso, stated\nthat the institution is committed to providing the best services to the\npublic in response to growing energy efficiency issues in society facing\nthe global crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the adjustments experienced by the iPusnas service, the\nNational Library emphasised that this was not related to budget\nefficiency, but was part of an effort to strengthen the digital service\nsystem as a whole to ensure long-term stability and reliability of the\nservice.<\/p>",
