        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives Commission XIII, Franciscus Maria Agustinus Sibarani, is\npushing for the provision of allowances as well as improvements to\nfacilities and infrastructure for immigration enforcement officers in\nborder areas. He emphasised that strengthening immigration oversight is\nan essential part of safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring\nlegal certainty, while highlighting the heavy challenges of immigration\nmonitoring in border regions. \u201cTherefore, we in Commission XIII view\nsupport for facilities and infrastructure, as well as allowances for\nofficers in border areas, as a priority,\u201d said Sibarani in his statement\nin Jakarta on Sunday. He conveyed this during a Specific Working Visit\nto the West Kalimantan Immigration Office. He assessed that the\nincreasing flow of people is not matched by field monitoring capacity,\nparticularly in border areas with challenging geographical\ncharacteristics. \u201cOn one hand, the flow of people is increasing. On the\nother hand, monitoring capacity is not fully able to keep up,\u201d he\nstated. According to him, the land border length of West Kalimantan with\nMalaysia, which exceeds 1,000 km, presents a particular challenge. To\nreach several points, officers must travel for hours through rocky\nroads, muddy terrain, forested areas, and river routes. \u201cThis is not an\neasy condition. The risks in the field are very high, while access is\nstill limited,\u201d he stressed. In addition to geographical conditions, he\nalso highlighted limitations in basic infrastructure at several border\npoints, such as electricity, clean water, and communication networks,\nwhich directly impact the effectiveness of monitoring. \u201cWithout adequate\nsupport, the monitoring burden in the field is not commensurate with the\navailable facilities,\u201d he continued. Therefore, Sibarani is urging\nstrengthened support for Immigration officers, both in terms of\nfacilities and infrastructure, increased human resource capacity, and\nthe provision of performance allowances and work risk protection.\n\u201cOfficers at the borders face far greater challenges.
