An Indonesian MP from Commission VI has highlighted President Prabowo Subianto's strong commitment to the creative economy through his Astacita vision and initiatives like establishing a dedicated ministry and funding for intellectual property-based projects. This comes in response to the legal case against videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu in North Sumatra, where the prosecutor undervalued his creative services at zero rupiah, which the MP deems an insult to the profession and a setback to national efforts to boost the sector. The MP calls for Amsal's full exoneration and hopes parliamentary discussions will yield substantive justice, emphasising the shift towards a creative economy.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of
Representatives, Kawendra Lukistian, has emphasised that President
Prabowo Subianto, through his Astacita vision and mission, places
significant attention on the creative economy (ekraf), in response to
the case affecting a videographer from a village project in Karo
Regency, North Sumatra, namely Amsal Christy Sitepu.

He stated that President Prabowo has been striving to improve the
welfare of creative economy practitioners, from separating it into its
own ministry, funding creative economy based on intellectual property,
to issuing a government regulation (PP) related to it. However, he views
the process against Amsal as an insult to creative economy
practitioners.

“If Amsal Sitepu is prosecuted in this manner, it has the potential
to harm our President’s spirit in promoting the creative economy. We’re
in the midst of this enthusiasm, yet something like this happens?” said
Kawendra during a meeting on the case with Commission III of the House
of Representatives at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on
Monday.

The General Chairman of the National Creative Economy Movement
(Gekrafs) conveyed that the Chairman of the Gekrafs High Council, Sufmi
Dasco Ahmad, has stated that Indonesia’s and the world’s economy is
shifting from extractive to creative economy. This means, he said, the
potential of the ekraf sector is enormous.

“The fighters and practitioners must be appreciated, not harmed. This
is being wronged again. Could we suspect that this is a sacrifice?” he
said.

Nevertheless, he still respects the ongoing judicial process against
Amsal. On the other hand, he emphasised that the prosecutor’s assumption
regarding the value of creative idea services, editing, and dubbing at
only Rp0 is foolishness and an insult to the profession.

On behalf of creative economy and industry practitioners, he wishes
for Amsal to be fully freed from legal entanglements. He hopes that the
meeting held by Commission III of the House of Representatives regarding
Amsal can produce substantive justice.

“We fight on, stay spirited, fellow creative economy fighters
throughout Indonesia,” said Kawendra.
",
