Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI), Bambang Purwanto, has reminded that safety\nmust remain a priority for officers in the field tasked with\nextinguishing forest and land fires (karhutla).<\/p>\n
He noted that most fire locations are situated in peatland areas,\nmaking the firefighting process highly risky. He expressed his\nappreciation for the hard work of the Task Force teams and volunteers\nwho continue to strive to extinguish numerous hotspots.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Task Force team is the frontline in handling forest and land\nfires. Therefore, their health and safety must be taken into account,\u201d\nBambang stated in a written statement received in Jakarta on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
To that end, he said that the health and safety of officers must not\nbe neglected amidst their efforts to protect the public. Given the\ndifficult terrain and surrounding smoke, personnel must continue to work\nhard to ensure that the flames can be controlled and prevented from\nspreading.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope they remain spirited in carrying out their duties, but they\nmust never ignore their personal safety when struggling to extinguish\nthe fire,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The MP, representing the Central Kalimantan constituency, also\ndistributed complete sets of masks to officers from the Forest and Land\nFire Task Force currently working in West Kotawaringin, Central\nKalimantan.<\/p>\n
He assessed that the current condition of forest and land fires in\nWest Kotawaringin is quite worrying. In addition to impacting public\nhealth, the haze caused by these fires also has the potential to disrupt\nactivities and the economy.<\/p>\n
He noted that the handling of forest and land fires in West\nKotawaringim Regency has been carried out through strong collaboration.\nThe local government, alongside the TNI-Polri (Indonesian National Armed\nForces and National Police) and volunteers, continues to work in synergy\nto face the disaster.<\/p>\n
He also called upon all residents of West Kotawaringin to support\nprevention and mitigation measures for forest and land fires.
