Jakarta \u2013 A member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives, Cek Endra, has expressed appreciation for the success\nof SKK Migas and PetroChina International Jabung Ltd.\u00a0in discovering a\nnew gas reserve through the NEB-79ST well in West Tanjung Jabung\nRegency, Jambi.<\/p>\n
This discovery is regarded as good news for strengthening national\nenergy resilience, particularly in increasing domestic LPG supply.<\/p>\n
According to Cek Endra, the success of drilling the NEB-79ST well,\nwhich yielded a gas flow of 6.3 MMSCFD, demonstrates that the national\noil and gas potential, especially in the Jambi region, remains highly\nprospective for optimal development.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis discovery is an achievement worthy of appreciation. In addition\nto boosting national gas production, the gas content, which includes\npropane and butane, also has the potential to directly support an\nincrease in domestic LPG production,\u201d said Cek Endra in his statement on\nThursday, 9 April 2026.<\/p>\n
He assessed that this achievement is inseparable from the\ngovernment\u2019s policy direction through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral\nResources, which continues to encourage increased investment and\nexploration activities in the upstream oil and gas sector, including to\nmaintain national production sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also appreciate the government\u2019s steps, particularly the Minister\nof Energy and Mineral Resources, in continuously strengthening the\ninvestment climate and providing policy support for oil and gas\nexploration and development activities. This is an important factor in\ndriving new discoveries like in Jabung,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
He explained that increasing domestic LPG production is very\nimportant given the continuously rising national LPG needs, while\ndependence on imports remains significant.<\/p>\n
Therefore, every additional supply from within the country will have\na significant impact on strengthening the national energy balance.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Cek Endra assessed that this success also reflects the\neffectiveness of upstream oil and gas management conducted\nprofessionally and efficiently, including in terms of occupational\nsafety as evidenced by the zero accident achievement during the well\ndrilling and completion process.<\/p>\n
