The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre (PVMBG) has\nreported that Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait has experienced at\nleast 18 eruptions since 2 July 2026. Although volcanic activity has\nincreased in recent days, the mountain\u2019s status remains at Level III, or\nAlert.<\/p>\n
Rio Bonik Situmorang, an officer at the Anak Krakatau Volcano\nObservation Post, stated that as of Sunday (12\/7), no new eruptions had\noccurred. However, monitoring results have recorded 18 eruptions since\nthe beginning of July.<\/p>\n
\u2018There have been no eruptions today. However, in the preceding days\nstarting from 2 July, approximately 18 eruptions were recorded up to\nyesterday,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Rio explained that the activity characteristics of Mount Anak\nKrakatau continue to show dynamic conditions. Seismic intensity can\nincrease during certain periods and then decrease at other times.<\/p>\n
\u2018The last eruption successfully recorded by instruments occurred the\nprevious night at around 23:34 Western Indonesia Time,\u2019 he noted.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, visual observation of Mount Anak Krakatau from the\nPasauran Observation Post in Banten has not been optimal because the\nsummit area remains covered in fog.<\/p>\n
To monitor the development of magma activity, the PVMBG continues\n24-hour surveillance through the Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post.\nMonitoring is conducted using various volcanic instruments to detect\nchanges in the mountain\u2019s activity continuously.<\/p>\n
\u2018The results of periodic evaluations by the volcanology expert team\nserve as the main reference in determining mitigation steps,\u2019 he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The recommendations issued by the PVMBG remain in effect as long as\nMount Anak Krakatau\u2019s status is at Level III, or Alert. The public,\ntourists, and fishermen are asked not to enter or conduct activities\nwithin a three-kilometre radius of the active crater for safety\nreasons.<\/p>\n
