MOU for forest research<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Bogor-based Center for International
\nForestry Research (CIFOR) yesterday signed memos of understanding
\nwith four Indonesian research institutes to conduct a number of
\njoint research activities.<\/p>\n
Under the agreements, CIFOR would conduct joint research
\nprojects with the Ministry of Forestry's Directorate General of
\nForestry Inventory and Land Use Planning, the ministry's Forest
\nResearch and Development Agency, Bogor Agriculture University and
\nthe Faculty of Forestry of Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada
\nUniversity.<\/p>\n
A statement from CIFOR said the agreement would provide a
\nframework to support sustainable forest management of tropical
\nforests in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The research would cover subjects such as the impact of
\nlogging on forest biodiversity in Central Kalimantan, the effects
\nof deforestation on biodiversity in Jambi, the development and
\ntesting of forest survey measurement and inventory techniques.<\/p>\n
Other subjects include studies on reduced impact logging and
\non the effect of different management techniques on forest
