Motorcycle thieves thwarted<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Following a two-fold increase in motorcycle
\nprices, high demand for the transport in the greater Jakarta area
\nis prompting many criminals to turn to motorcycle theft, despite
\na police shoot-on-sight order.<\/p>\n
A favorite target of criminals is the ojek (motorcycle taxi)
\ndriver.<\/p>\n
In Tangerang alone, dozens of motorcycles rented and owned by
\nojek drivers have been stolen this year.<\/p>\n
A number of drivers have suffered violent deaths at the hand
\nof motorcycle thieves.<\/p>\n
The increasingly dangerous field of employment, has not led
\nTangerang ojek drivers to suspend their services.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday evening, ojek driver Dayat, suffered severe stab
\nwounds from an alleged motorcycle thief at Kotabumi.<\/p>\n
After picking the passenger up at Kotabumi terminal at about 8
\np.m., Dayat drove the man to Vila Regency II housing complex, the
\nvictim said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
At the destination, two male accomplices were waiting.<\/p>\n
\"The three then tried to grab my motorcycle. But I fought back
\nsince it's my only means to earn a living.\"<\/p>\n
By chance, some of Dayat's fellow drivers turned up, prompting
\nthe thwarted thieves to sprint from the site. (41\/jun)<\/p>",
