A motorcycle gang confronted officers at Samapta Police Headquarters\n(Polrestabes) in Makassar, South Sulawesi, whilst members were breaking\ntheir Ramadan fast.<\/p>\n
The incident is believed to have occurred after officers warned the\nbikers against revving their engines in convoy formation whilst\nresidents were performing their religious observances.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, that is correct. It happened when members were breaking their\nfast at the office,\u201d said Samapta Commander at Polrestabes Makassar,\nAKBP Justin, to CNNIndonesia.com on Sunday (15 March).<\/p>\n
The incident began when hundreds of motorcycle gang members riding\nalong Botolempangan Street in Makassar at approximately 18:35 WITA on\nSunday (15 March) were revving their engines whilst setting off\nfirecrackers. Police officers in the vicinity immediately intercepted\nthe motorcycle convoy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey passed by the office, and our Turjawali members intercepted the\nconvoy with the intention of taking action and reminding them not to set\noff firecrackers and rev their engines, given that residents were\nperforming evening prayers at the mosque, but they resisted,\u201d Justin\nexplained.<\/p>\n
When stopped, according to Justin, the motorcycle gang members did\nnot accept the warning. The gang members then threatened the Samapta\nPolrestabes Makassar officers who had stopped them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey threatened to stage protests and some invited officers to duel,\nand they threatened to report the officers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, according to Justin, all Samapta Polrestabes Makassar\nmembers pursued persuasive approaches, preventing any undesirable\nincidents from occurring.<\/p>\n
