Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 Nirwana, the mother of seaman Fandi Ramadhan who\nfaces a death sentence, stated that her son had suspicions that the\nboxes of methamphetamine he was transporting on board contained\nbombs.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by Nirwana during a Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU)\nwith Commission III of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan,\nCentral Jakarta, on Thursday, February 26, 2026. She was accompanied by\nrenowned lawyer, Hotman Paris, during the meeting.<\/p>\n
Nirwana said that her son, Fandi, only found out that the boxes\ncontained methamphetamine after he was arrested.<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked, \u2018So, how did you know?\u2019. \u2018After the arrest, Mom, that\u2019s\nwhen I found out I was carrying drugs,\u2019\u201d Nirwana said, imitating her\nson\u2019s words.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018So, didn\u2019t you ask?\u2019. \u2018I asked when the captain told us to load the\ngoods. As soon as I lifted it, I felt uneasy. I said to my friend, \u2019Hey,\nwhat is this? But we\u2019re supposed to be carrying oil. Don\u2019t you think\nthis is strange?\u2019. \u2018What\u2019s wrong, Ndi?\u2019. \u2018This doesn\u2019t feel right. Why\nwould the ship carry these boxes? This doesn\u2019t feel right. What if it\ncontains bombs?\u2019 That\u2019s what my son said, Sir,\u2019\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Nirwana also admitted that she was shocked that her\nson was caught carrying drugs. In fact, the ship mentioned in the\ncontract was supposed to be a cargo ship.<\/p>\n
She then asked Commission III of the DPR to help her as a parent to\nresolve the case involving her son, seaman Fandi.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, as a parent, I ask for justice and request that you help me to\nresolve the problem of my son,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Public Prosecutor of the Batam Prosecutor\u2019s Office,\nRiau Islands, stated that they would still seek the death penalty for\nsix crew members of the Sea Dragon Terawa who were carrying nearly 2\ntons of methamphetamine.<\/p>\n
The death penalty was still sought despite criticism from the\nChairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman.<\/p>\n
This statement was made by the Public Prosecutor during the hearing\non the prosecutor\u2019s response to the defendant\u2019s plea (replik) at the\nBatam District Court on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.<\/p>\n
