Most regencies ready to hold elections:KPU<\/p>\n

The General Elections Commission (KPU) said on Saturday most
\nregencies across the country were ready to hold elections as
\nscheduled on Monday.<\/p>\n
KPU deputy chairman Ramlan Surbakti said some delays in the
\ndistribution of ballot papers might occur in remote areas of
\nPapua and Central Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
\"Ballot papers are expected to reach remote areas in those
\nprovinces on election day on Monday, but we will see how we are
\nprogressing in the distribution in those areas tomorrow
\n(Sunday),\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the remote areas in Papua where the ballots were
\nexpected to arrive on Monday included Mimika, Bovendigul and
\nPuncak Jaya. He did not elaborate on the areas in Central
\nKalimantan.<\/p>\n
\"We will hold a briefing on Sunday to announce the final
\nprogress of the ballot paper distribution to all regencies,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Trouble spot areas like Aceh, Maluku and North Maluku are also
\nready to hold the polls, he said.<\/p>\n
A total of 147.4 million voters are eligible to vote in 440
\nregencies at 585,218 polling stations across the country.<\/p>\n
Separately, a top home ministry official said the KPU would
\nannounce whether or not the elections would be delayed in some
\nareas.<\/p>\n
The official, Muhanto, said there were only a few regions that
\nhad yet to receive ballot papers and other election materials.<\/p>\n
Batam, to the south of Singapore, the Southeast Sulawesi town
\nof Kendari and the capital Jakarta all announced they had
\ncompleted all the preparations for the polls.<\/p>\n
\"All the ballot papers have been distributed in Batam and I
\nhope the supply is sufficient,\" said Agustar, a member of the
\nlocal KPU.<\/p>\n
The total number of ballot papers distributed in Batam
\nsurpasses the number of eligible voters in the province,
\n1,190,077.<\/p>\n
In South Sulawesi, five regencies\/municipalities are yet to
\nreceive ballot papers. They are Luwu, Mamasa, Barru, Bone and
\nMakassar. Governor Amin Syam said he was optimistic the ballot
\npapers would arrive at polling stations in the areas on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Some polling stations in the East Nusa Tenggara capital of
\nKupang are also still waiting for ballot papers.<\/p>\n
The head of the local KPU, Robinson Ratu Koreh, said the
\ndistribution of ballot papers to the East Flores regency was
\nstill underway.<\/p>\n
In Jambi, only 90 percent of the ballot papers have arrived.
\nBut the head of the local KPU, Abdul Rasyid, is optimistic the
\npolls there will not be delayed.<\/p>",
