Moslem youths protest hoarding<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): At least 40 Moslem youths flocked to Tangerang
\nmayoralty's office yesterday to protest the municipality's
\nsluggish response to the rising prices of basic staple foods,
\npartly due to hoarding.<\/p>\n
The group's arrival at the office caused mayoralty workers to
\npanic and kept the police busy.<\/p>\n
The group, which called itself Forum Silaturrahmi Pesantren
\ndan Masjid Tangerang (Tangerang Islamic Education and Mosque
\nForum), repeatedly shouted Allahu Akbar (God is great) and
\nunfurled posters.<\/p>\n
Tangerang military district commander Lt. Col. Harman Rozanie
\nand Tangerang Police precinct deputy chief Maj. M. Iriawan later
\ninvited the protesters to meet with Tangerang Mayor Djakaria
\nMachmud and his assistants.<\/p>\n
Djakaria reminded the group to behave responsibly during the
\nmeeting as their actions could cause further disruptions ahead of
\nnext month's General Session of the People's Consultative
\nAssembly.<\/p>\n
The forum's secretary, T.B. Mahdi Adhi Adhiansyah, expressed
\ndissatisfaction after the meeting, saying: \"The mayor didn't
\nrespond to our complaint, instead he used it for political gain.\"<\/p>\n
The protesters, who wore white clothing with a yellow ribbon
\ntied around their right arms, presented six demands.<\/p>\n
Among the six, were the sale of stock, believed to have been
\nhoarded, at reasonable prices, and the revocation of licenses of
\ncompanies accused of hoarding.<\/p>\n
They also demanded the municipality take stern action against
