Moslem group condemns Serb aggression in Bosnia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An influential Indonesian Moslem movement
\nyesterday accused the Western world of conspiring to destroy the
\npredominantly Moslem Bosnia-Herzegovina and called on the
\nIndonesian government to sever ties with Belgrade.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Committee for World Moslems Solidarity (KISDI)
\nstated that the United Nations have \"tied up the feet and hands\"
\nof the Bosnian Moslems by refusing to lift an arms embargo
\nimposed on them at the start of the four-year war.<\/p>\n
\"In order to appear humane, the UN sends food supplies so that
\nthe Bosnians can survive for a short time, before the Serbs
\nslaughter and rape their women,\" spokesman Ahmad Sumargono said
\nin a statement.<\/p>\n
\"The UN pretends to be blind and not see that the Serbs
\ncontinue to obtain arms and fuel from Russia and the Western
\ncountries,\" he said.<\/p>\n
KISDI, which over the years has organized massive rallies for
\nvarious causes, called on the Indonesian government to \"take
\nconcrete actions it has initiated, which is to call for a meeting
\nof the UN Security Council and pressure it to lift the arms
\nembargo\".<\/p>\n
President Soeharto, as chairman of the 112-member Non-Aligned
\nMovement, offered during his visit to Bosnia in March this year
\nto help find peaceful solutions to the conflict.<\/p>\n
KISDI called on the government yesterday to sever diplomatic
\nties with Belgrade, and to provide facilities for Bosnians who
\nwish to come to Indonesia to seek help and support.<\/p>\n
\"We call on the government to express our country's concern
\nover the situation by sending assistance in the form of food,
\nclothing and medications,\" Sumargono said.<\/p>\n
\"Our organization is ready to mobilize and raise aid from
\namong Indonesian Moslems,\" he pledged.<\/p>\n
The organization also called on the Indonesian Council of
\nUlemas to resume its activities in raising funds for Bosnians and
\ncooperate with other Moslem organizations here.<\/p>\n
\"We also call on Indonesian Moslems to pray, individually or
\ntogether with their congregation, and ask Allah to help ease the
\nsuffering of the Bosnian Moslems,\" Sumargono said.<\/p>\n
KISDI called on the heads of Islamic states to mobilize their
\nforces and help find a solution to the bloody conflicts in
\nBosnia-Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
\"It's time for you to mobilize the strength of Moslems in your
\ncountries, to show concrete solidarity and help solve the
\nconflicts, through either diplomatic or military approaches,\"
\nSumargono said.<\/p>\n
The Bosnian Serbs have taken over the UN \"safe area\" of
\nSrebrenica and are now moving into Zepa, one of the last towns
\nstill under Bosnian control. Thousands of Moslem civilians were
\nforced to evacuate the Srebrenica enclave last week in the
\nlargest single expulsion of the Bosnian war.<\/p>\n
KISDI sent its statement of concern to the government, the
\nIndonesian Council of Ulemas, and leaders of a number of Islamic
\nstates. It made 15,000 copies of the statement and distributed
\nthem to mosques and other Moslem organizations. (swe)<\/p>",
