        "content": "<p>More to be made homeless<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): After demolishing about 300 makeshift houses in<br>\nMarunda and evicting the residents, the North Jakarta Mayoralty<br>\nannounced on Friday that it planned to demolish more than 500<br>\nmakeshift houses along the flood canal in Penjaringan area.<\/p>\n<p>\"The demolition will be conducted soon after we inform the<br>\nresidents,\" North Jakarta Mayor Soebagio told reporters after<br>\nmeeting Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted that the mayoralty had failed to prevent the canal<br>\nbanks from being occupied by the people.<\/p>\n<p>\"We should have prevented them from the beginning, so that<br>\nthere would not be hundreds of makeshift houses like there are<br>\nnow,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, he claimed that Sutiyoso had<br>\napproved the mayoralty's action to evict 1,500 illegal residents<br>\nfrom vacant land in Marunda on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\"They are illegal squatters.
