More thuggery against media<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A hotel security guard physically assaulted a
\ncameraman from SCTV television station Tuesday when he was
\ncovering a special shareholders' meeting held by Bank Lippo at
\nthe Hotel Dharmawangsa in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The guard, identified as Amin, hit Agung Nugroho's left ear
\nwith his radio handset, and yanked Agung's ID card from around
\nhis neck, according to Bayu Wicaksono of the Alliance of
\nIndependence Journalists (AJI).<\/p>\n
About 100 journalists were crowded in front of the Ballroom
\nentrance, where the event was taking place, but they were not
\nallowed to enter.<\/p>\n
AJI condemned the wanton violence by the guard, and termed it
\nharassment of the press and a violation of the principle of
\nfreedom of information as mentioned in the Universal Declaration
\nof Human Rights and Press Law No. 40\/1999.<\/p>\n
The organization also called upon the city police to pay
\nserious attention to the incident and investigate the case by
\nquestioning the security guard and the hotel management. --JP<\/p>",
