More than 3,000 lamps installed in city streets<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has installed more than
\n3,000 street lamps in five mayoralties in the current fiscal
\nyear, a city official said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Niazie Gani, the head of the city's illumination agency, told
\nreporters that 2,900 mercury lamps will be installed in
\nresidential areas in the city's five mayoralties.<\/p>\n
In addition, each mayoralty will be also get 40 street lamps
\nfor its main streets, and 300 lamps for medium and small streets,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
So far about 70 percent of the total have been installed.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that priority was given to residential areas
\nbecause these areas are the biggest part of the capital, he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
He said that every year, 60 percent of the lamps required by
\nthe administration are installed at residential areas. The other
\n40 percent go for street illumination.<\/p>\n
He said that the agency has targeted installation of 125,000
\nstreet lamps by 2,000.<\/p>\n
\"What we have done so far is to meet the city's basic
\nrequirements. We have yet to think about turning the capital into
\na city of lights,\" he told reporters who accompanied him and the
\ncity councilors supervising street lamps in Johar Baru
\nsubdistrict, Central Jakarta. (32)<\/p>",
