More swimmers eye Olympics<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia hopes to qualify more swimmers for the
\n2000 Olympic Games in Sydney apart from nine swimmers currently
\nattending a training program.<\/p>\n
Secretary-general of the National Swimming Federation of
\nIndonesia (PRSI) Abdurrahim said the swimmers could test their
\nskills in the 15th National Games (PON) in Surabaya in June,
\nwhich has been acknowledged by the international swimming
\nfederation (FINA) as one of the qualifying rounds for the
\nquadrennial event.<\/p>\n
\"Senior swimmers like Catherine Surya, Rita Mariani and Meitri
\nPangestika still have a chance to qualify through competing in
\nPON. But we will consider the best swimmers to represent
\nIndonesia in the Olympics. A chance to perform in the Games will
\nboost their confidence, although we have not named any swimmers
\nto be sent to Sydney,\" he said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
PRSI and the National Sports Council (KONI) are grooming men's
\nswimmers Richard Sam Bera, Wisnu Wardhana, M. Akbar Nasution,
\ntwin brothers Albert and Felix Christiadi Sutanto M. Akbar
\nNasution, Steven Chandra and women's swimmers Elsa Manora
\nNasution and Siripiya Sutanto. Among these swimmers, only
\nSiripiya has not yet qualified.(ivy)<\/p>",
