More HIV-positive cases in Irian<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Fifteen more people have reportedly
\ntested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), bringing
\nthe total to 95.<\/p>\n
All of the newly-reported cases are Thai citizens residing in
\nKaimana regency.<\/p>\n
\"The province ranks second after Jakarta in HIV-positive
\ncases,\" Director General for the Prevention of Contagious Disease
\nof the Ministry of Health Hadi M. Abednego told Antara yesterday.<\/p>\n
The authorities have banned Thai fishing boats from using the
\nports of Merauke and Kaimana, two towns which have seen a rapid
\nincrease of HIV cases.<\/p>\n
In Merauke last year, 50 Thai fishermen reportedly tested HIV
\npositive. Last month, 15 other Thais in Kaimana were also found
\nto be HIV positive.<\/p>\n
As of the end of last month, the total number of people
\ninfected with HIV in Indonesia reached 346 people.<\/p>\n
Officials, however, have said the actual number of cases is a
