More flood-prone areas this year<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The number of areas in the capital likely to be
\ninundated by flood waters during the wet season could reach at
\nleast 108, far in excess of last year's 82 sites, it was
\nannounced yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"However, the number could be even higher if the level of
\nrainfall is similar to last year's,\" R. Sitindjak, head of the
\nJakarta Disaster Prevention unit, said.<\/p>\n
Rapid economic development appeared to be one factor which
\ncontributed to the 30 percent increase in the number of flood-
\nprone areas, he said.<\/p>\n
The areas at risk in Central Jakarta include Petamburan, Jl.
\nBendungan Hilir, Jl. Sabang, Jl. Wahid Hasyim, Jl. M.H. Thamrin,
\nJl. Industri, Jl. Pangerang Jayakarta, Rajawali Selatan and
\nCideng.<\/p>\n
In North Jakarta, the list includes Kampung Rawa Badak,
\nKampung Tugu Utara, the Kelapa Gading housing complex, Kampung
\nWarakas, Jl. Martadinata, Jembatan Dua and Teluk Gong.<\/p>\n
In West Jakarta, the areas include Daan Mogot,
\nPalmerah\/Kemandoran, Bojong Indah, Batusari, Meruya Ilir and
\nMangga Besar.<\/p>\n
In South Jakarta, the areas that may be hit include Gandaria
\nUtara, Kampung Ulujami, Tebet, Melawai, South Manggarai, Pondok
\nPinang and Permata Hijau.<\/p>\n
In East Jakarta, Cawang Dewi Sartika, Bidara Cina, Kampung
\nMelayu, Kebon Nanas and Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan are expected to
