Timor<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Air Force has increased its flights to East<br>\nTimor in line with increasing demands for air transportation<br>\nfacilities on the eve of Monday's ballot.<\/p>\n<p>\"Besides regular flights, the Air Force has implemented<br>\nadditional flights to transport military and civilian officials<br>\nto the province,\" Commodore Bachrum, chief spokesman for the Air<br>\nForce, told The Jakarta Post here on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the additional flights were needed because state-owned<br>\nairline Merpati had not added extra flights to the province.<br>\nMerpati now serves the Jakarta-Dili route every day except<br>\nWednesday and Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Regular Air Force flights use a Hercules C-16 cargo aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Bachrum said that the frequency of additional flights depends<br>\non the Military Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>\"The Air Force aircraft should be standing by any time they<br>\nare needed,\" he said. He said an Air Force Fokker-28 was<br>\ninstructed by TNI Headquarters on Friday to transport military<br>\nofficials and 20 local journalists.<\/p>\n<p>Bachrum predicted that more additional flights would be made<br>\nto Dili after the ballot to bring back military and civilian<br>\nofficials and local journalists.<\/p>\n<p>Due to a lack of air transportation facilities, the Navy<br>\nrecently deployed a warship to transport more than 350 Indonesian<br>\nobservers to Dili.
