        "content": "<p>Moral upbringing<\/p>\n<p>From Merdeka<\/p>\n<p>As a parent I am quite concerned about public behavior,<br>\nparticularly among teenagers who no longer adhere to good manners<br>\nand ethics in the company of their parents, or women.<\/p>\n<p>I have often observed this on city buses, at school or in<br>\nother public places. I am worried about the change in young<br>\nIndonesians' behavior. Unfortunately youngsters are vulnerable to<br>\nnegative acts and it is therefore not surprising if brawls<br>\ndevelop among students.<\/p>\n<p>But the thought that they might one day become leaders is very<br>\ndisturbing, as their behavior is far from what is expected from<br>\nIndonesians who are known as a civilized, kind and helpful Asian<br>\nnation.<\/p>\n<p>Media reports on crime involving a number of casualties call<br>\nfor our immediate attention. If these incidents are also<br>\noccurring in families we should question what is behind them.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion the real cause can be found in a poor moral<br>\nsense, customs and manners which belonged to our forefathers.<br>\nThese values have faded away now. Morals are no longer talked<br>\nabout in families or taught at school, and this has resulted in<br>\nthe prevalent obnoxious behavior among youngsters.<\/p>\n<p>I appeal to the Minister of Education and Culture to revive<br>\nmoral education in schools beside the instructions of Pancasila<br>\nmorality (PMP). It is clear that guidance of this kind  will<br>\ninstill good behavior in our children who are the next generation<br>\nand future leaders.<\/p>\n<p>THEO WIJAYA<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
