Month-long party to mark anniversary<\/p>\n
Jakarta has undergone many transformations and borne many names:
\nSunda Kelapa, Jayakarta, Batavia and Jacatra. The anniversary of
\nthe establishment of the city is officially celebrated on June
\n22. This year, to mark its 477th anniversary, the Jakarta
\nadministration has prepared a month-long festival.<\/p>\n
Upcoming events:<\/p>\n
June 14-July 14: Jakarta Great Sale 2004<\/p>\n
Location: Department stores, malls, retail centers, hotels and
\nrestaurants across the capital.<\/p>\n
This annual event aims to attract shoppers with discounts and
\nspecial offers.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony will be held on June 24 at Plaza Semanggi
\non Jl. Sudirman with 24 department stores, 21 malls, 170
\nretailers and 18 hotels and restaurants participating in the
\nprogram.<\/p>\n
June 15-26: Jakarta Anniversary Arts Festival<\/p>\n
Location: Jakarta Arts Building (GKJ), Pasar Baru, Central
\nJakarta<\/p>\n
The CKJ will host various events, including performances and
\nrecitals.<\/p>\n
June 17-July 18: Jakarta Fair 2004<\/p>\n
Location: Kemayoran Fairground in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
An annual event since 1962, the fair will feature various
\nevents, including concerts, as well as a food festival and trade
\nexhibitions.<\/p>\n
June 20: Indonesia Interculture Festival (from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.)<\/p>\n
Location: Jl. Kebon Sirih in Central Jakarta<\/p>\n
The festival will feature traditional and contemporary music
\nand dance performances. Arts workshops and shows, including a
\nprogram titled \"Jakarta Rhythm of Percussion,\" will be held at
\nthe same location.<\/p>\n
June 20: Jakarta International 10-K (from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.)<\/p>\n
Location: Monas, Jl. Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman<\/p>\n
Professional athletes are expected to run, including 28
\nforeigners and 20 Indonesians, as well as thousands of amateurs.
\nThe event is open to the public.<\/p>\n
June 26: Youth Night and Fireworks Festival<\/p>\n
Location: Karnaval beach in Ancol Dreamland Park, North Jakarta
\n Live music and a fireworks display.<\/p>\n
June 27: Jakarta Street Carnival<\/p>\n
Route: Sudirman-Thamrin-National Monument Park<\/p>\n
Will feature a motorcade, including floats, and a Balinese kecak
\ndance performance.<\/p>",
