Monitoring team to arrive in Aceh<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A government monitoring team for Aceh will leave for
\nthe ravaged province next week to check up on the implementation
\nmartial law, an official said here Monday.<\/p>\n
\"The government-sanctioned monitoring team will likely arrive
\nin Aceh next week and carry out their tasks until the end of the
\nsecond military operation,\" the secretary to the Coordinating
\nMinister for Political and Security Affairs, Sudi Silalahi, said,
\nin reference to the second 6-month mandate for martial law.<\/p>\n
It will end on May 19 this year.<\/p>\n
The 23-member team is tasked with checking on the flow of
\nstate funds used in the operation and the distribution of
\nhumanitarian assistance for the Acehnese.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, five members of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) rebels
\ngroup have surrendered to the Indonesian Military since Saturday.
\nThe rebels included three GAM leaders, according to martial law
\nspokesperson Lt. Col. Asep Safari. -- Antara<\/p>",
