        "content": "<p>'Monitor' tabloid to hit newsstands<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Information has given the green<br>\nlight for the publication of new daily tabloid Monitor,<br>\nexecutives of the publication said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Chief editor Zaim Uchrowi and managing editor Eko Supriyanto<br>\nsaid the tabloid, whose permit was issued on Feb. 2, would start<br>\npublication on April 5.<\/p>\n<p>Zaim, former vice chief editor of Republika daily, said a copy<br>\nof the tabloid would sell for Rp 2,250 and by monthly<br>\nsubscription of Rp 45,000.<\/p>\n<p>\"For the first stage, we will publish 45,000 exemplars per<br>\nday,\" Zaim was quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n<p>He identified the target readership as people who could afford<br>\nto subscribe to more than one publication.<\/p>\n<p>\"This is a conventional newspaper which complement others<br>\nwithout necessarily competing with those already in existence.\"<\/p>\n<p>Without divulging details on the amount of investment, he said<br>\nthe publication would be sound for the next year despite the<br>\nabsence of major investors.<\/p>\n<p>Although it uses a daily format, it will not depend entirely<br>\non breaking news or hard news, but also feature in-depth stories,<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>Eko explained the founding of his tabloid was inspired by the<br>\ninfluential U.S. publication The Christian Science Monitor.<\/p>\n<p>He stated Monitor was not connected to publication of the same<br>\nname which had its publishing licensed revoked by the government<br>\nseveral years ago.
