Iran\u2019s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned the United States\nthat it will suffer an \u2018unforgettable lesson\u2019 at the hands of Tehran and\nits regional allies. He accused the US of repeatedly violating the\nmemorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries.<\/p>\n
As reported by Al Jazeera on Sunday (19 July 2026), the written\nstatement attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei was read out on Iranian state\ntelevision on Saturday (18 July). The supreme leader said Washington\u2019s\nviolations of the MoU showed that President Donald Trump\u2019s signature was\n\u2018completely worthless and invalid\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018The repeated violations of the agreement by the Great Satan once\nagain prove to everyone that the signature of the American president is\nnow completely worthless and invalid, and that intimidation, hegemony\nand thuggery are inseparable components of American beliefs and\ndoctrine,\u2019 the statement read.<\/p>\n
\u2018Now, if the American enemy seeks to spark war and suffer heavier\ncosts and further humiliation, they must know that the beloved Iranian\nnation and the Axis of Resistance have an unforgettable lesson for\nthem,\u2019 it added.<\/p>\n
The United States intensified its attacks on Iran this week,\ntargeting civilian infrastructure including bridges, railways and a\nwater desalination plant. Tehran has responded by striking civilian\ninfrastructure in Kuwait, a country hosting US forces. Kuwait has urged\nall residents to conserve electricity.<\/p>\n
The US-Israel war against Iran, which began in February 2026, is\nviewed as an existential threat by the country\u2019s senior leadership.\nTehran has shown no signs of yielding to the escalating demands of the\nTrump administration.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, regional countries continue to push behind the scenes for\nan end to the conflict. Khamenei said the US had \u2018revealed its true\nface\u2019, showing \u2018falseness, irrationality, unreliability and\nwickedness\u2019.<\/p>\n
He called on the Iranian people to trust the leadership to protect\nthe country, urging the public to remain \u2018vigilant\u2019 and \u2018active\u2019 as the\nfighting continues. Beyond direct attacks by Iran, the Houthi movement\nin Yemen is also reportedly able to close the Bab al-Mandeb strait to\nthe Red Sea in support of Iran, a key ally.<\/p>\n
Such a move would further destabilise global energy markets, drive up\ninflation and place additional pressure on Trump to halt the attacks.\nThe war is deeply unpopular in the United States and has caused economic\nhardship for American citizens.<\/p>\n
The MoU, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan and signed last month, was\nintended to create conditions for the war to end permanently.
