        "content": "<p>Moerdiono heads APEC committee<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The government has formed a committee to<br>\norganize the upcoming meeting of the leaders of the Asia- Pacific<br>\nEconomic Cooperation (APEC) forum slated for November.<\/p>\n<p>The committee, headed by Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono,<br>\nwill make all the necessary preparations for the meeting of the<br>\n18 APEC leaders, including U.S. President Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>Moerdiono announced the formation of the committee yesterday<br>\nafter presenting a keynote address at a seminar on the social<br>\nimpacts of urban development at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the committee include businessman and former<br>\nambassador to the United States A.R. Ramly as executive director;<br>\nMaj. Gen. Hendropriyono, the Jakarta Military Commander as deputy<br>\ndirector; and businessman Ponco Sutowo as second deputy director.<\/p>\n<p>An advisory group to the committee consists of Minister of<br>\nPost, Tourism and Telecommunications Joop Ave, Minister of<br>\nForeign Affairs Ali Alatas and Minister of Industry Tunky<br>\nAriwibowo.<\/p>\n<p>The APEC leadership meeting is expected to be held in Bogor<br>\nimmediately after the group's ministerial meeting in Jakarta in<br>\nearly November.<\/p>\n<p>Moerdiono said all the APEC members have agreed to attend the<br>\nleadership meeting although Taiwan and Hong Kong will not be<br>\nrepresented by their heads of state.
