Moerdiono heads APEC committee<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The government has formed a committee to
\norganize the upcoming meeting of the leaders of the Asia- Pacific
\nEconomic Cooperation (APEC) forum slated for November.<\/p>\n
The committee, headed by Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono,
\nwill make all the necessary preparations for the meeting of the
\n18 APEC leaders, including U.S. President Bill Clinton.<\/p>\n
Moerdiono announced the formation of the committee yesterday
\nafter presenting a keynote address at a seminar on the social
\nimpacts of urban development at City Hall.<\/p>\n
Other members of the committee include businessman and former
\nambassador to the United States A.R. Ramly as executive director;
\nMaj. Gen. Hendropriyono, the Jakarta Military Commander as deputy
\ndirector; and businessman Ponco Sutowo as second deputy director.<\/p>\n
An advisory group to the committee consists of Minister of
\nPost, Tourism and Telecommunications Joop Ave, Minister of
\nForeign Affairs Ali Alatas and Minister of Industry Tunky
\nAriwibowo.<\/p>\n
The APEC leadership meeting is expected to be held in Bogor
\nimmediately after the group's ministerial meeting in Jakarta in
\nearly November.<\/p>\n
Moerdiono said all the APEC members have agreed to attend the
\nleadership meeting although Taiwan and Hong Kong will not be
\nrepresented by their heads of state. (arf)<\/p>",
