Modern bus shelters to be set up<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has authorized PT
\nMesayumas Tirta to build a number of modern bus shelters in the
\ncity to promote traffic discipline and keep public order, a city
\nofficial said.<\/p>\n
Prawoto Danoemihardjo, an assistant to the city secretary,
\nsaid on Thursday that the company will build and manage the
\nmodern bus shelters. \"In return the company will be exempted from
\ntaxes on advertisements displayed on the shelters for five
\nyears.\"<\/p>\n
He explained that each shelter will be equipped with a kiosk
\nselling soft drinks, cigarettes, food and newspapers, as well as
\na public telephone booth.<\/p>\n
Prawoto said the shelters will be built in strategic areas in
\nCentral Jakarta, including the \"golden triangle\" area in Senen,
\nGunung Sahari, some points on Jl. M.H. Thamrin as well as Jl.
\nGajah Mada.<\/p>\n
About 2,000 modern bus shelters will be built in the city in
\nstages in cooperation with private companies. \"Its realization
\nwill very much depend on the results of the pilot project
\nconducted on Jl. M.H. Thamrin,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Ita Mustafa, president of PT Mesayumas Tirta, said
\nthat each bus shelter will occupy 30 square-meters and require an
\ninvestment of more than Rp 30 million.<\/p>\n
She said 24-hour security officers will be responsible for
\ncleanliness and security around the shelters.<\/p>\n
\"They are responsible to keep order and security as well as
\ncleanliness around the shelters,\" she told reporters after
\nmeeting with Governor Surjadi Soedirdja. (32)<\/p>",
