Mob attacks three Metro Minis<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Galur residents in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta,
\nvandalized three Metro Mini public minibuses on Wednesday evening
\nafter another minibus ran over a local in the morning, police
\nsaid on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\"The incident happened at about 7:45 p.m. when some 100 angry
\nresidents damaged three passing minibuses serving the route of
\nTanjung Priok in North Jakarta to Kemayoran in Central Jakarta,\"
\ncity police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri said.<\/p>\n
Separately, Kemayoran Police substation chief Maj. Sudjono
\nsaid the residents became enraged after learning that another
\nminibus plying the same route hit Adriansyah, 26, a local
\nresident, who was chasing a suspected thief with other residents
\nwhen he was run over.<\/p>\n
Both Adriansyah and the suspected thief, later beaten by the
\nmob, were rushed to the nearby Islamic Hospital.<\/p>\n
Later in the day, local residents then smashed the windows of
\nthe three Metro Minis.<\/p>\n
\"Local police officers rushed to the scene to secure the area
\nand ordered the angry residents to leave the site,\" Sudjono said.<\/p>\n
Drivers of Metro Mini minibuses have earned a reputation of
\nbeing reckless drivers. The capital has witnessed scores of
\nminibuses damaged and torched by mobs for similar reasons.
