        "content": "<p>Mixed marriages made easy<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Procedures for mixed marriages involving Moslems<br>\nfrom Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia will be<br>\nless tortuous in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The four neighboring countries have agreed to simplify legal<br>\nand administrative procedures for such marriages, and to set up<br>\nhot lines linking their religious affairs offices to facilitate<br>\nprocessing of marriage license applications, Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>The news agency quoted Ichtianto, a staff member at the<br>\nMinistry of Religious Affairs, as saying that the new procedures<br>\nwill not undermine regulations in individual countries.<\/p>\n<p>\"There are regulations which are already identical because<br>\nthey are based on Islamic teaching, but there are differences on,<br>\nfor instance, the ages at which people can legally marry,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, marriages among citizens of the four countries<br>\ntended to take a long time to process and usually involved<br>\ncomplicated legal and administrative procedures.<\/p>\n<p>With the hot line program, Indonesians in any of the three<br>\ncountries will no longer be required to get statements of their<br>\neligibility from each of the ministries of religious affairs,<br>\njustice and foreign affairs as well as from the Indonesian<br>\nEmbassy in the country they were living in.<\/p>\n<p>The new hot line will tend to the matter in a shorter time.<\/p>\n<p>Ichtianto said the simplified procedures will help Indonesian<br>\nMoslems working in any of the other three countries if they<br>\nwished to marry local citizens but could not go home to organize<br>\nthe necessary administration.
